BS25999 Business Continuity

BS25999 is the British Standard for Business Continuity Management. It establishes a best practice specification for optimising recovery after a major incident. The Quality Assurance Consulting Team at Parker has extensive experience of working with businesses to achieve the standard, especially in financial services, debt recovery, data warehousing, and people search businesses.

How BS25999 will benefit your organisation?

  • Even if an organization never experiences a major incident, creating a BCMS (Business Continuity Management System) helps to define critical businesses processes and the impacts that would result from any threats arising.
  • Increased levels of resilience and recovery capability, and the knowledge of the continued survival of the organization after any significant interruption.
  • Provides customer assurance of your organization’s ability to continue to offer key services, even after an incident.
  • Improves stakeholder perception of the organization’s internal governance and resilience procedures.
  • Advantage over less resilient competitors in the market place.
  • Improved risk profile in the minds of insurers, possibly resulting in reduced premiums.

What is BS25999?

  • BS25999-1: 2006 is the Code of Practice for implementation guidance.
  • BS25999-2: 2007 is the Specification for Business Continuity Management, which details how to demonstrate compliance with the Standard.
  • BS25999 is the British Standard for business continuity management. BS25999 provides a framework for establishing a best practice BCMS (Business Continuity Management System) which covers the entire life-cycle of BCM planning.
  • Formal certification is available from UKAS approved certification bodies, who wish to demonstrate that they have robust business continuity arrangements in place.
  • BS25999 is built into four key areas: Understanding the organization, determining BCM strategies, development of a BCM response and finally exercising and testing.
